FAQs
Do you work with health insurance companies?
I do not work directly with insurance companies. This means that I do not bill directly or provide treatment updates to insurance providers, and you are financially responsible for fees at the time of service. Depending on your out-of-network benefits, a portion of the cost may be covered by your insurance plan. Documentation for submitting a claim with your health plan provider will be generated by SimplePractice at the end of each session, or the end of every month. If you have insurance through your employer, I recommend that you contact your employer's human resources department for assistance.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is used to submit information to insurance providers for reimbursement. It includes appropriate codes related to service and diagnosis. Provider business information and tax identification are also included on the superbill. The superbill is separate from an invoice. Seeking pre-authorization or reminbursement from your insurance provider can be challenging and confusing. Please let me know how I can support you with this process.
Do you provide telehealth sessions?
Services are provided both in-person and via telehealth. Standard precautions for healthcare settings are followed to minimize the risk of in-person services. This could include mask-wearing, social distancing, and daily cleaning of all high-touch areas of the office. Integrated practice management software from SimplePractice allows for HIPAA-compliant telehealth visits.
What is the payment policy?
Payment information is required upfront and charges are made after each session. Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and FSA cards are accepted.
What is your cancellation policy?
If it is necessary to cancel an appointment, office policy states that you must cancel 48 hours before your scheduled appointment time. You will be charged the regular fee for the session if you have not provided notification of your cancellation 48 hours before the time of the appointment.
How should we prepare for our first session?
Before our first session, you will receive intake paperwork that can be submitted electronically through your client portal on SimplePractice. Additionally, you will be able to establish the online payment method you prefer. There may be other providers that you would like me to coordinate care with. Please consider signing a Consent for Release of Information with them prior to our first meeting.

I’m concerned about my family’s privacy. How do you protect that?
I strictly adhere to all local, state, and federal privacy laws. I am not authorized to release any information about you, or even acknowledge that you are a client, without your express written permission. You may request that I not leave messages for you, or indicate that only certain phone numbers or email addresses are to be used for communication. Secure messaging is offered through a HIPAA-compliant online platform. It is important to note that state law and professional ethics require therapists to maintain privacy except for in the following situations:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm themselves, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law to ensure their safety.
